I wanted to share some of the common acronyms that are part of the DNA Discovery. This was very helpful for me. One of my friends laughingly pointed out that there is no BD (baby daddy)! Some times you just gotta laugh and enjoy the humor in our friends as they walk this path with us.

AID – artificial insemination by donor

ART – artificial/assisted reproductive technology

BC – birth certificate

BF – birth father

BM – birth mother

BCF – birth certificate father

BCM – birth certificate mother

BRW – brother raised with

Biosplaining – “for people who don’t have a clue telling us how we should feel” (Marianne Senechal)

Bruncle – brother/uncle

CM – Centimorgans – CMs measure the distance in DNA to someone. The higher the CMs, the closer to a generational match.

DC – donor conceived

DTD – do the deed

FIL – father-in-law

FOB – father of baby

FRM – father raised me

FOMO – fear of missing out

HB/HS – Half-Brother/Half-Sister

IUI – intrauterine insemination

IVF – in vitro fertilization

LDA – Late Discovery Adoptee

MIL – mother-in-law

MRM – mother raised me

MPE – misattributed parental event

NDB – newly discovered brother

NDS – newly discovered sister

NPE – non paternal event, not parent expected

POC – products of conception

SRW – sister raised with
