“The Climb” is a poem I wrote many years ago. As I go through my past writings it is obvious that the the feelings I was dealing with are REAL. During the discovery of my biological father and family (which will continue to be ongoing) I look back and the raw emotions that some days enveloped me are now so obvious. Enjoy!

The Climb

What is in my way?

A bump in the road throws me off balance

Struggling to stay upright

I hit my head, skin my shins, stumble forward and upright myself once more

Only to trip again

What is in my way?

I do not fall to my knees

I do not crater

Nor do I let the Earth envelope me

For I know it would spit me right back out

Back on my feet, just like a cat

No matter how far the drop

What is in my way?

I look down and see my own hands

Outstretched

Grasping

Holding

Seizing

My feet, my legs, my Soul

Afraid to let go for fear of falling or failing

I gently release my entwined fingers

Assuring myself that all will be fine

And that to fail is better than never trying to climb at all
